Lesson Overview
Discuss questions generated in first telecast and research of soil with Frank Admunson.  Frank is with the U.S. Geo. Survey Office in Huron.  He will discuss topography, rivers and directions, soil and aquifers before and at present in Heartland.

Standards Based Goal
Students will study their local community and its history, analyze plant life, before and  after the ice age, landforms, waterways, aquifers, use maps, tables, charts,  and graphs.

Student Objectives
Students will question, compare and clarify maps and reports about land forms and soil types in area in the past and present.
Students will research and list types of plants  the James River Valley is suited for.
Students will identify with pictures or drawings the types of plant life grown successfully, here, now, and compare with what grew here before the last ice age.

Play into song.

Discuss and try to sing choice for new verse for song.  Send copy to Kaye for her to try out before next we.

Discussion with Frank Admundson.  Students show and discuss pictures/tables/etc/
Talk about glaciation/plants/soil
Interaction with Frank.

Assign list of names of 1st people to live here.  Present at end of tele. les.6. Make list of question to ask Kaye, if not already done.

VTEL testing, smart cam, cameras, white board. Use for interview with Frank.

Have Net Meeting set up, just in case.

Record for abs. students

Confirm Kaye Haug interview next wk. (lesson 6).

Plan on having Kaye introduce the song, The Spirit of Dakota as well as A Legend There.

Video taping for relearning of content

Assessment
Have drawings/pictures sent in for grading of accuracy of kind of plant drawings attempted. Have students label/list as well.  Mail in questions for Kaye if e-mail is down.
