The students will become better acquainted with the First Heartlanders.  They will learn of their culture and compare with their own.

Standards Based Goal
The students will learn about the life and values of another culture and compare it with their own life, values, culture.  

Student Objectives
Students will name the first Heartlanders living in their area.  They will make a chart comparing the food, way of making a living, dwellings, and dress of these people and themselves.

Call role by giving the following assignment:  As pairs of students to take 5 min. to see what infor. they can find on one of these tribes;  Dakota, Santee, Arikara, Yanktonai.  Have listed on board.  Keep mike off mute, listen and watch discussions and activities.

Give findings and list in categories of food, living, dress, dwelling. 

Answer question and list,  "What does our theme song have to say about these people?

Research and write down on paper.

List wording in song on your board

Assignment is to Choose one of the following to report on next week or later, depending on time:  Chippaewas, Magabobdu (Chief Drifting Goose), Hunkpati, Sauk, Fox, Winnebago, Potawatoni

 

Use VTEL and search Internet for tribes and infor. ( Type in Indigenous People.  Look for names of tribes.)

Have net meeting set up just in case of VTEL problems.

All sites should have worksheets relating to Unit to be sued for back-up.

Assessment:
Students oral participation and cooperation will be half of grade.
Finding correct references in song will be half grade.
