Project: The History of the Heartland
Curriculum Area(s): SD. history, science, geography, math social studies, art, spelling, music, language, etc.
Age/Grade: This lesson and standards are aimed at grade 3, but may be used for K-12.
Project Summary: This is an introductory lesson to a unit on little know facts and sites of historical interest in an 11 county area of SD., in particular Beadle and Spink counties but including Clark, Kingsbury, Miner, Sanborn, Jerauld, Buffalo, Hand, Hyde, and Faulk.
There are many spin-offs possible in many of the subject areas and at varying levels. 
The purpose of this unit is to inform the students and parents about the area where they live, that they were not the first people there and the topography has not always been the same.
