Huron Has Second Largest Graduating Class

In the Aug. 24, 1916, edition of the Daily Huronite, being shared with Roger Kasa, Mrs. Melvin Hofer of Huron, Supt. F. L. Whitney outlined the opening of the new school year.
The grade schools were located at Washington, Hamilton, Jefferson and Lincoln. A total of 314 students attended the senior high school the previous year and more was expected in 19l6.
Apparently, school officials were looked for an increase in rural students and those attending from other counties. Open enrollment must have been in effect in those days.
It also is noted in the article that Huron's graduating class of 1916, was the second largest in the state. The largest class was in Sioux Falls.
A total of 17 credits were needed for graduation.
Violations of City Ordinances
Another article in that same edition, listed the license plates of 16
automobiles of which drivers had violated a city ordinance. For example,
12 of them were cited for no rear lights, while one had no muffler.
Other offenses included speeding, passing another car in an intersection and driving on the wrong side of the road.
