2000 Historian of the Year - Ivan Loesch
Ivan Loesch is the Founder/President of the Heartland Historical Society. As a SD Heartland Regional historian, Loesch has presented an informative program entitled "The James River Valley - The Glaciers through the Middle Ages" for many years. Loesch starts with glacial information and moves into each stage of history of SD to the year 1880. He talks about the Mound Builders, Assiniboin, Cheyenne, Arikara and Dakota people. Loesch points out that each of these people were a part of our prehistory...each of them had hopes and dreams, were part of families, and faced many of the same challenges as we do today. Loesch has made these presentations throughout the Heartland Region for over thirty years. He has carried his unique collection of artifacts to show the listeners a hands on learning experience.
Loesch is an active inventor, architectural designer of new building methods and components. Loesch is the author of Unisonia, "A Doable Global Village" and has developed the website: www.unisonia.cim. which will be activated shortly.
Loesch, also an author as well as an inventor, lives with his wife, Elaine, in Huron and has 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren.
