The Lodge
Overview:
This part of the site deals with information found in the Visitor Center which has
a full size replica of the lodge. This was constructed by guessing from the holes
and remains. Inside the lodge is the Cache Pits which were started as a place to store food and
then when bugs and mice infested these, they used it to store garbage. From
these cache pits, archeologists could find out about their diet, tools,
pottery, etc. The cache pits are
of rich historical significance.
Purpose:
To help students understand about the culture of this prehistoric Indian
group from the remains of their homes and cache pits.
